Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez, representing District 39, has filed House Concurrent Resolution 138 (HCR 138) to fill the much needed service of adequate health care to veterans in the Rio Grande Valley. HCR 138 urges our leaders here in the Texas Legislature and United State Legislature to create this Veterans Hospital in Weslaco, which is centrally located to serve the entire Rio Grande Valley and surrounding South Texas areas.

"With over 46, 000 veterans in the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas, the need for a Veterans Hospital is not only evident, but essential," Representative Martinez stated. "The creation of the Veterans Hospital will be an excellent symbol that we the people of the Rio Grande Valley and South Texas appreciate the ultimate sacrifice that they have put forth to defend our freedom."
Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez has also signed on to House Bill 3224 that will increase the benefits for families who have lost family members in the war against terror. The bill will include all soldiers' families who have lost their life since September 11, 2001. "I fully support the bill and feel that this bill is an act of righteousness," Martinez stated. "I agree that no amount of money can replace life, but an increase of benefits for the loss of their family member assists greatly as these families adjust to the new life created by their family members sacrifice."

The Texas Service Member Memorial Fund will generate revenue through the sale of "Support Our Troops" license plates that would be available through the Texas Department of Transportation.
