REP. ARMANDO -MANDO- MARTINEZ NAMED TO COMMITTEE OF THE NATIONAL CONFERENCE OF STATE LEGISLATURES

Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez of District 39 was appointed to the Transportation Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures (NCSL). His term will last two years and begin in 2005 and end in 2007.

"It is an honor to have been appointed to serve on the Transportation Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures," Representative Martinez said. "I feel the issues facing this committee directly affect us all no matter what our means of transportation maybe, we are all affected. I am proud to be serving this federal responsibility to this extent." The Transportation Committee meets three times a year-once in Washington, D.C., once in a city away from Washington D.C., and at the NCSL Annual Meeting. Representative Martinez's appointment includes developing the official policy statements that form the basis of the NCLS's lobbying in Washington, D.C., and are the primary vehicles for sharing information among legislators.

The Transportation Committee will focus on such issues as highways and surface transportation, rail and Amtrak, aviation, ports and waterways, motor vehicles, driver licensing, traffic safety, drunken driving, cell phones and transportation funding.
