State Representative Armando "Mando" Martinez of District 39, honored Weslaco resident and talented musician Herbie Lopez on Monday, May 02, 2005 by passing House Resolution 462. Mr. Herbie Lopez plays accordion with the popular band, El Conjunto Bernal and was recently inducted into the Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame as a member of the Class of 2004 Million Dollar Band.

"I am extremely proud and honored to have the opportunity to honor one of our most talented individuals in District 39, Martinez stated. "Mr. Lopez possesses a musical talent on an instrument that is the backbone of Tejano music and a staple in the Tejano culture." A portion of the resolution read, "Those gifted individuals who dedicate their lives to music are an indispensable asset to the Lone Star State and are truly deserving of the respect and gratitude of their fellow Texans." The Tejano R.O.O.T.S. Hall of Fame was organized to honor the pioneers and legens of Tejano music, to preserve Tejano musical heritage, and, through its museum in Alice it provides a compilation of stories and memorabilia associated with Tejano musicians.
